Venez d\u00e9couvrir Gen\u00e8ve telle qu'elle \u00e9tait lors d'un week-end en 1602<\/strong> et vous voyagerez dans le temps.<\/h4>\n

Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, dans la nuit du 11 au 12 d\u00e9cembre, Charles Emmanuel Ier, duc de Savoie, tenta de s'emparer de Gen\u00e8ve, convertie au calvinisme depuis 1536. Il fit marcher son arm\u00e9e \u00e0 la faveur de la nuit pour prendre la ville par surprise. Il projetait de faire de Gen\u00e8ve la capitale de ses territoires au nord des Alpes et de lutter contre le calvinisme avec le soutien du pape Cl\u00e9ment VIII, malgr\u00e9 un trait\u00e9 de paix maintes fois sign\u00e9 et renouvel\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Peu apr\u00e8s minuit, l'arm\u00e9e savoyarde, forte de plus de deux mille hommes bien \u00e9quip\u00e9s, \u00e9tait stationn\u00e9e \u00e0 Plainpalais. Un important groupe s'en d\u00e9tacha, parvint au pied des remparts, dressa ses \u00e9chelles et commen\u00e7a \u00e0 gravir les berges sans \u00eatre rep\u00e9r\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Geneva was sleeping peacefully. The invasion of the city had begun. It was abruptly interrupted by a patrol from the Mint post, which surprised the attackers. In the ensuing melee, a sentry fired his arquebus. The alarm was raised! The tocsin rang out from the cathedral, soon followed by the bells of all the city’s churches.<\/p>\n
